One unique stump.
There is over 400 growth rings dating the tree to the late 1500's, if it is a single tree. The growth pattern is extremely unusual with bark in the center, leading one forester to surmise that there must be more than one tree involved. Another was convinced the tree had been in a fire or struck by lightning.
