Live Edge Design Inc. is a Vancouver Island company formed in 2006 to design and build the best contemporary furniture designs using woods—such as maple, alder and fir—that grow on along British Columbia's West Coast.
Evan Sadler was the owner of Sadler Fine Furniture, a company he started in 1990. He was known for his fine furniture, including reproduction styles such as English Pine and Arts & Crafts, as well as his own unique designs of contemporary styled rustic slab furniture.
John Lore owned Pickle Ridge Rustic Carpentry, which he opened in 1994 at the well-known Whippletree Junction heritage shopping centre. He specialized in twig and log furniture, including bark-on furniture, driftwood furniture and wood slab furniture.
Both discovered a preference for working with local woods and building furniture that suited those woods. But each was working at a different end of the spectrum: Evan was building furniture using solid wood and traditional joinery techniques and John was specializing in mountain lodge furniture for large eco resorts.
Recognizing the many ways in which their work complemented each other, they decided to form a new company to create the best of an emerging, unique West Coast Style: “Live Edge” furniture. A natural, contemporary design aesthetic.
