Hawaii ho'ike, Behemoth walnut slab table and more...

HOME IS WHERE THE HEART IS

At the end of January I went with a group from BC Wood to Hawaii, doing a building show on Oahu then visiting designers builders and Architects on Kauai, Maui, and the big island. We visited some spectacular homes, all of which had components of wood products made by BC companies, usually from wood out of British Columbia forests. Even though the weather was PERFECT, I came back because home is where the heart is.

IT WAS HOW BIG?

We recently completed a 17ft long x 6ft wide dining table, made from a single slab of black walnut with some astounding figuring. Here's the finished piece...

And here's a sneak peek behind the scenes on what it took to create this behemoth beauty. Laying out the slab in consultation with the client; sketching where the organically shaped glass will fit, cutting and polishing the glass, shaping the wood to celebrate its 'treeness', a team of 7 maneuvering the table during the pre-delivery assembly in our, now, rather cramped shipping bay.

Worth every effort.

MEET RODRIGO

Reserved and detail oriented woodworker with super-human Parkour moves!

Rodrigo joins our talented crew of craftsman from the Camosun Fine Furniture program. He is also an avid and astounding parkour practitioner and can often be seen leaping between tall buildings. His attention to detail is great in the workshop and his unique ability to assess and calculate how to get a 17ft long table up a stairwell comes in handy on delivery day.

"I'm not the fastest woodworker. I enjoy taking my time and focusing on the details. The most important thing to me is to always do the best I can." Rodrigo
